Thanks, that mostly works, but "I hope." is bumped onto a new line in the 
displayed

postscript, rather than flowing in-line after italicisation ends. There must be 
a way

to provide a little bit of page fitting, I figure?

Branden was right, installing a full groff did provide -ms, but I see that:

also bumps to a new line after the comma, in the displayed postscript.

Trying this input to groff:

.LP

But does it

flow lines?

shows input newlines are preserved, so fitting the text to the output

page also fails at present. Solving that should fix both problems.

(I had imagined it would flow a paragraph until the next .PP or .LP,

else it fails to typeset paragraphs?)
