Ecotourism Society Pakistan (ESP) has strongly criticized the decision of
Punjab government to cut a large number of conifer forest in the district of
Murree for constructing a new town namely New Murree.
The society is of the view that Murree Hills are already in tremendous
pressure of construction activities during the last two years and four
different housing societies are already cropping up on Islamabad-Murree Road
and already played havoc with funna and flora of the area and water
resources of Murree Hills.
ESP has demanded IUCN, WWF and other international actors to play their role
to stop this on-going damage. ESP in its next meeting scheduled to be held
on July 30 would decide line of action to stop the constructions.
