Media Release The Hon Fran Bailey, MP 12 July 2005 DECIPHER TO DEVELOP NATIONAL TOURISM ACCREDITATION PORTAL High quality tourism products and services are critical for Australia's reputation as a premier tourist destination and tourism accreditation is recognised as an important mechanism that can help improve quality. "The Australian Government has committed $2 million of Tourism White Paper funding to tourism accreditation and in keeping with this commitment, Decipher Technologies Pty Ltd will develop a tourism business and accreditation portal," Fran Bailey said today. This initiative will support the tourism industry's own efforts to develop a voluntary, industry-led tourism accreditation system. Decipher Technologies Pty Ltd already manages a most comprehensive information website for the tourism industry. It will draw upon its existing expertise to build a portal for tourism business improvement and will also provide on-line accreditation capabilities to tourism accreditation program managers and individual businesses. "Australian tourism is a $73 billion industry with inbound tourism equating to $17 billion and forecasts predict that the value of inbound tourism will reach $32 billion in 2014. "This Government's is not just interested in meeting these forecasts, but exceeding them. To do this we will leave no stone unturned in providing a quality tourism experience right across Australia," Fran Bailey said. "The tourism business and accreditation portal will be designed with two toolkits. One toolkit will assist industry to develop and market tourism accreditation and relevant products, and will help raise awareness of accredited products available in the marketplace." "The second toolkit will provide information and assistance to enable operators to improve their business and management skills and will link to key industry and Government websites that provide information on business development," Fran Bailey said. "Australia offers unique and diverse tourism experiences and I am committed to ensuring that the tourism industry delivers quality tourism experiences for all visitors to our beautiful country."
