There is actually one remaining project in the directory, but it's been inactive for years and doesn't seem likely to be reactivated. Nor have I found other uses for the module since becoming its owner (indeed, my primary accomplishment has been to move/remove most code from that directory).
And if we do decide to start another desktop embedding project in the future, it isn't clear to me that we'd host it in that directory (nor that I'd be the right module owner for it).
