The handful of larger Open Source communities and conferences that have bucked that trend (PyCon, the Rust community, a handful of others) have done so by implementing and enforcing codes of conduct, being deliberate about avoiding exclusionary language and through active outreach and accommodation efforts to include marginalized groups and minorities.
