Hi everyone,

This is Mika from Mozilla's legal team. Some concerns have been raised here
around the scope and application of Pocket's ToS and Privacy Policy in
connection with Firefox. I'm writing to provide more information.

Firefox users are not automatically subject to Pocket's ToS. Pocket's ToS and
Privacy Policy govern only Pocket's service -- they don't extend to Firefox.
The only people who are subject to these documents are Pocket users who wanted
to use the Pocket service and expressly signed up to use it. If you chose not
to use Pocket, they don't apply to you.

When we discussed issues we had with Pocket's practices with Pocket (as we do
with each partner we work with), Pocket was responsive to our requests for
general improvement of their practices and policies - for example, they
clarified portions of their Privacy Policy (which is a legally required
document) and changed UX to be more upfront with users about email practices.

Here are some clarifications to questions raised on this thread:

(1) Pocket's ToS is generalized for their whole offering. Some terms like the
"Pocket Application" and "install" refer to their mobile applications and
plugins. The terms do not refer to Mozilla products. Pocket's customer service
group should help with inquiries about further clarifying language in their
terms and information about their service: http://help.getpocket.com/. It
sounds like some people have contacted Pocket with more questions but not heard
back a response, if that's the case, I'll certainly reach out and let them know.

(2) You can create your own service to save documents for later viewing and can
modify our open source code to integrate with that service. If you have an idea
for a service integration or feature in the main build of Firefox, dev-planning
is the right place to discuss it.

(3) Our relationship with Pocket allows us to integrate their service in
official branded versions of Firefox released by us. If you would like to
distribute Pocket using Mozilla code you've modified, you would have to enter
into an agreement with them separately. You can contact them at this page:

Best,
Mika
