I am currently working on migrating etherpad.m.o to etherpad-lite (which is the currently supported upstream etherpad project now) and will be reimplementing "Team Site" functionality. I am planning to support deeper integration with things like ldap and mozillans.org and persona so kinds of things discussed here should be doable, and could be done as etherpad-lite plugins.
The tracking bug for migrating is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=831448 "Team Sites" will stay on the old server initially, and I plan to spin up some test team instances for people who heavily use this feature and want to help me test.
