>What's the performance comparison between Reiser and ext3? I'm not >sure I've seen any reliable benchmarks (oxymoron?) on this.
I hear ext3 is identical ext2 on read, and a bit slower on writes. It mainly buys you journalling, but that's not important for me; the computer never crashes anyway. Reiserfs balanced-trees and tail-packing supposedly perform very well (in space and time) for zillions of small files in a single directory; namesys.com has some benchmarks although they are hardly from an unbiased source. >However, I have noticed after the 'queue timelag' in October, mails posted >to our list <ambit> went missing from the archive - a whole 2 weeks' worth >between 4th and 17th October. Any ideas what's happened? Any chance of >these re-appearing? It's a good chance the mails are sitting on the secondary MX, which is currently holding onto 200MB of other mail. Or perhaps there are amongst the 100k+ messages that I have sitting around elsewhere. With luck, I might actually get a chance to burn off some of these queues. In the last 24 hours we actually made forward progress on about 25k messages -- which is good, we'll see how that holds up. >I've set up a mailing list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and it won't be >archived. The server punkpage.net is actually the server >ns1.fastserver.nl but it's hosting several sites, and punkpage.net is >one of them. Perhaps this is also causing problems? Probably not causing performance problems at mail-archive.com. I can't really diagnose this sort of thing without looking closely at headers from a message. In any case, if you did this recently, wait a week or three for some of the excitement to calm down and if it doesn't magically show up, send me a message to look at. -Jeff _______________________________________________ Gossip mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://jab.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/gossip
