I bet that this will immediately start a discussion on a v5 key format to fix this problem for “all” time. And obviously the suggestion will then be to show the full, then, SHA-256 fingerprint. Frontends should handle this problem. For example they could show all matching keys after a decryption problem. Hiding the keyID from the user would even be better - the mail address should be sufficient for 99% of all users. For the experts, a “Details” button can show all the glory details of the key.
