GnuCash keeps track of the past several files you have opened, and it could
be the path changed after a reboot or swapping USB sticks.

It has been awhile since I have used a Mac OS, but on Ubuntu / Kubuntu (and
probably other flavors of linux) if you apply a unique file label to a USB
stick, that particular stick will mount to the same path in the filesystem
on subsequent attachments or reboots.

I find that if the USB stick has no file label, the mount point varies
among several paths.

It might also help to format the stick using exFAT instead of FAT32.

MacOS X probably has some additional facility to ensure the path to your
files does not change.
