However, that doesn't apparently save to the data file. I was working on my books last night, but the computer restarted due to an update and the master file was not saved. So now I have the master file time-stamped at 7 am yesterday morning, and about 25 xml text files from the automatic saves as I worked. How do I roll those into the master file and update it without having to re-create the complex invoice I was working on?
Not a specific gnucash problem though how to recover from it is a gnucash problem.
Horses and barn doors. Any/all of your applications are at risk from this sort of thing if you allow automatic updates to start regardless of what you are doing at the time. You should have some settings that change that. Instead of immediately running, have the computer notify you that it wants to run an update. That will give you a chance to close all running applications before you tell the update to run.
