To get rid of the Retained Earning from your report, just edit the report options and deselect all income and expense accounts.

I agree that the Retained Earning in GNC for most individual users doesn't make much sense since we are not dealing with net operating income or stock dividends.  There should be a separate explicit report for REs based specific business requirements instead of just taking a sum of all income and expense account balances...
