Re: [GNC] How do I do a back up of Gnucash? Dan,Your main data file (set of
books is stored at a location you will havedecided on when you first ran
GnuCash and did a File->Save to somespecific location on a hard drive. GunCash
by default creates backupfiles of that file and log files which are useful in
the event a crashcauses corruption of the main data file. The main data file
will be named <filename>.gnucash where <filename> isthe name you have given the
file. The backup files will be named <filename>.gnucash.<timestamp>.gnucashand
the log files will be named<filename>.gnucash.<timestamp>.log.<timestamp> is 1
14 characcter numerical string giving the date(yearmonth and day and time
(hours, min, sec) of creation of the file in theformat YYYYMMDDHHMMSS. If you
move the file(s) to another locationGnuCash will not find them when you start
it again and you can useFile_Open to navigate to the new location and open
the<filename>.gnucash file.? You would only access the backup and logfiles
after having a system crash where the <filename>.gnucash becomescorrupted. It is
generally recommended that you create a folder/directory (it canbe named
<filename>) and place all of the above files with <filename>.*in that
directory.? This simplifies backup of the files to anotherdevice as you simply
backup the whole directory. In addition there is user preference data
(including saved reports etc)and configuartion data as described on the wiki
page. About half waydown that page under the heading Diagrams of Configuration
LocationsYou will find links to diagrams showing the locations of that data
inthe file heirarchy. You may wish to backup? the data in? c:\Documentsand

text/plain; charset="utf-8"Hello Robin,A couple of times when I changed
computers, I completely lost the files andcould not open them (I tried opening
them but there were no transactions). The solution that worked at the time was
replaying the GnuCash .log file asper screenshot below. Have you tried that?
There should be a log file inthe folder where you had your original
files.[image: image.png]I hope this helps.Regards,Inma de la TorreOn Thu, 14

I have sent crash reports to Apple developers to log the issue on their side
and am sending this message so that other GnuCash users can be aware of the
incompatibility at this time.I think it?s mostly an Apple problem too but the
reporter on bug 799463 included an error message that I'd missed and that led
to a potential workaround. I've packaged Gnucash-Arm-5.9-2.dmg. You can
download it from

No extensive testing, but it: Opens, processes pending scheduled transactions,
Saves, Quits, and reopens without crashing.--Dave
