Excellent information! I have no idea why I have never seen that message (I
currently use Dropbox to sync one GnuCash book file (out of nine active
ones), and even though I use compressed XML, I do not recall ever
having seen this message.

MAYBE I got a dialog similar to the one you did, YEARS ago, and I checked
the checkbox saying "never show this again." And then I completely forgot
about it.
