The old venerable balance sheet (and many "classic" reports) are not exactly well behaved when a subset of accounts, especially of varying levels, is selected for reporting. The experimental and eguile reports may behave better. Unless someone steps up and decodes the classic reports, this is likely to remain unresolved for a long time.
