is already fixed in SVN trunk and 2.4-stable branch. Your backtrace
mentions gnc_ui_account_get_tax_info_string which is exactly that bug.
It will be fixed in upcoming version 2.4.5 and any other upcoming

Just note that you could also have checked out the 2.4 branch to get the fix.
This is what will be used to create the upcoming 2.4.5 release and generally
should be more stable since trunk has been reopened for unstable development
again. For production the 2.4 branch is clearly recommended over trunk.
Just checked out the 2.4.4 svn r20530. It also runs properly, but I had
to downgrade back to guile-1.6-dev.

I did have to update guile-dev
from guile-1.6-dev to guile-1.8-dev in order for configure to suceed.
Indeed. Trunk has moved to guile 1.8 recently and no longer supports guile
1.6.
