This is not just important for Germany.  A key principle of accounting
in the United States also involves the creation of in inalterable audit
trail.  It's interesting to wonder how that would be done, but it's
important, and many commercial software packages do fine.  It's one of
the key things for some which prevents the use of gnucash.
