No, we don't require this restriction, though right now
our reporting / calculation functions aren't sophisticated
enough to handle this situation.
As far as design/implementation goes, I think what we need (as I
believe Linas has pointed out) is an object (like the debit-credit
collector that Christopher Browne created for reports) which will help
you sum up quantites in multiple currencies, so that you can keep
track of a running total of differently-denominatied values.
