I'm tempted to consider (at least as an option) handling the quickfill
stuff at the scheme level. This would make it fairly easy for anyone
to hack up their own mechanisms if they want to, and off the top of my
head, I believe that handling strings from the scheme level for this
purpose should be quite easy. We can also preserve the C level
quickfill calls as the default.
I'll think about this a little more.
