We use a lot of gnome (not gtk) code, so we can't really ditch it.
Some of the features are gnome specific widgets and UI builders,
so we can't replace them with KDE stuff.

However, you shouldn't have to install the whole gnome system,
just the gnome libraries. These aren't much bigger than gtk.
