Yes! The most immediate thing is to add a "make kde" option and
appropriate configure checks for kde && !gnome so it builds and
runs (possibly at first without the gnome features or the replacement
kde code).

Is gnome absolutely necessary? can KDE replace those features?
I'm all for GTK, but given that usually it's usually either/or for
KDE/GNOME, I'd rather not have to add GNOME to a KDE system just
for gnucash.
