Well, instead of sending a mail with "Linas, here's my latest patch" you
can write "Linas, here's my latest patch that does this and that" :)
I keep a ChangeLog file where I record my changes as I make them. Than,
when I send a patch I just copy the relevant entries from the log file to
the mail message.
