I'm not sure its true, but I suspect that using XML might enable other
applications to embed and manipulate the data (e.g. like installing
some of the data in a gwp or gnumeric document). Besides, there are
(and will be more) tools to manipulate XML on any platform, which
can't hurt. (e.g. I've heard that M$ declared their support for XML,
using XML might enable inter-operability with M$ or Lose95 products).
