On touch devices, the curtain is the standard way of implementing lock
screens for a number of reasons. Such as quick viewing of notifications, to
prevent accidental unlocking or several failed attempts that lock the
device, etc.

I will note that on keyboard devices, you can both turn the screen on and
lift the curtain at the same time by pressing the Esc key.
