It is suggested to do a 'git up' ("up", as in update) before working
on a module.
This will help ensure that the next steps will work and you will not
get messages about 'fast-forwarding', etc.
I use a script so that all my modules are 'git up'-ed in one go. It
takes me about 10 minutes for all of GNOME 2.28.
