We fork the source in CVS every time we make a new major release (3.3). In principle, the release-3-3-patches branch should only get bugfixes after that, and periodically we create new point releases and put them on the site.

This also means that it should be _fairly_ safe to run directly from the release branch of CVS, since it is usually more bugfree than the latest point release, and we shouldn't introduce things that require us to redo all the tests before a major release.

No rule without exception, though. Sometimes we've added functionality in point releases, but that's a bad habit we're trying to break...
