@alamb Perfect, I will consider this POC complete at this point and will carve out some time to submit an initial, smaller PR to get us started. As I noted in https://github.com/apache/datafusion/issues/17214#issuecomment-3362031834 some other efforts that are high priority for me need to be addressed first. My hope is those will be resolved within a week or so, at which point I will be able to get back to these changes with a more concerted effort.
