I would personally recommend proceeding in parallel with the two approaches, ensuring there are good end to end tests (.slt) -- and then if we find that the projection pushdown / rewriting code can subsume the schema adapter code we could make a PR to do that 🤔 -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
