No idea... that thing is building fine for me.

Alex, thanks for the status report. I know what you are doing from
IRC, but others do not. Maybe you should tell everybody why you're
trying to build dependencies from source and why that is pushing
some dependencies upgrades.
Changing dependencies just like this, out of the blue, is usually
not a welcomed move... usually we do that if there is some known reward
compensating for the risk, like a fix for a bug we're trying to solve or 
new functionality we need.
