Yes, the bounding box is cached in memory for performance reasons (it is
being asked frequently by the GeoServer code, which assumes
it's a fast metadata peek). So when you modify the database, you'll also
have to force GeoServer to drop the mosaic reader and create a new
one, it can be done with a resource reset.... it's probably going to work
with a "fake" change on the image mosaic resource too (e.g., make
a PUT request on the mosaic pushing back the configuration you just read).
Would be nice to have a way to do resets on a single resource, as far as I
know it's not present yet, but if you're interested enough in it,
it could be implemented, see:

Ouch, that's old and unsupported, I'd recommend an upgrade to 2.12.x at the
earliest convenience
