The plugin has still not reached supported status, it would take some more
work to get it there.
To get the other plugin to support unreferenced images some little work
should be done, but I believe
it should not be too much, like getting the "world image" reader work even
without the .wld files
I guess it depends on wheter you want to actually publish an image
collection behind a single layer
name, or want to publish each image as a separate layer.
Both would require some extra work in any case, but the work would be
different :-)
