This is just a testimony. I remember I had similar problems (but probably they were my fault), so I tried to replace gentoo using distros such as Suse or Ubuntu, but when I wanted to customize some things it was terribly difficult. So I returned to my previous love. The only difference is that this time I'm using paludis as a package manager. No problems so far.
