rsync is good, but has its own disadvantages, notably the lack of compression and the reliance on the destination filesystem to preserve permissions. Dar is a good compromise, being tar-like but intended for disk use. Restoration of individual files, while not as simple as with rsync, is far more straightforward than with tar. -- Neil Bothwick A man wrapped up in himself makes a very small package.
