Success! I kept fiddling with the settings and got it working. For future reference:
<config file="/etc/ssmtp.conf"> mailhub=smtp.gmail.com:587 UseSTARTTLS=YES [EMAIL PROTECTED] AuthPass=pass </config> Had to crawl through the source. Jeez.
