For posterity's sake, here is the Gentoo bug: https://bugs.gentoo.org/963709 Switching the mouse from evdev to libinput in xorg seems to avoid the bug. For recent installs, everything is probably already using libinput. My one machine that exhibitted the bug was initialy installed over 10 years ago and had never switched over to using libinput for xorg. -- Grant
