Firefox 140.2 esr ; my homemade list of pkgs shows :
230726 media-sound/cdparanoia-3.10.2-r7 [for gstreamer]
230717 media-sound/lame-3.100-r3 [for ffmpeg]
240427 media-sound/mpg123-1.32.3-r100 [for vlc]
240427 media-sound/mpg123-base-1.32.3 [for mpg123]
250427 media-sound/sox-14.4.2_p20210509-r3
W 251012 media-sound/strawberry-1.2.11
251005 media-video/ffmpeg-6.1.3 [for FF]
250906 media-video/pipewire-1.4.7-r2 [for FF qt]
250717 media-video/vlc-3.0.21_p20250217-r3 [for phonon-vlc]
251005 media-video/wireplumber-0.5.11 [for pipewire]
Strawberry is a recent replacement for Clementine, which was hard-masked,
& sound went on working without a break or glitch.
Gstreamer is installed to support KDE.
My installation record (2023 when I built the machine) tells me :
Kernel : General Set-up -> System V IPC=y
DD -> sound=y -> ALSA=y ->
PCI=y -> AD-Audio -> Realtek ALC=y [ie snd_hda_intel]
USB=y -> USB Audio/MIDI=y
USE="alsa pipewire-alsa"
'emerge alsa-lib alsa-utils'
'emerge qtmultimedia gst-plugins-base phonon libcanberra pipewire vlc'
'emerge clementine' : Mageia has it for music
/etc/group : add 'purslow' to 'pipewire'
I've never tried to use sound with FF without an external pgm like S'berry.

That's how it usually is (wry smile).
