You don't say you're a Linux user.  You say

"I tried to format them on my PC. It ran for 10 hours, then failed."

In a pinch, you can say.

"All of the other ones I bought here formatted with no problems on my PC."

Say "PC" a lot.  In their mind "PC" == "Windows".  It will never even
occur to them that you're running Linux.
