then after some fight and gentoo doc I got mysql back. after that was
apache time, all configuration has changed and I got to go as crasy to
find where it was...
Which is why you should ALWAYS have a backup of /etc. Just incase. I have a con job that tars up /etc and puts it in root's home every few days and it has saved my butt quite a few times.
And as somebody else said let this be a good (albeit tough) lesson that you should never run updates on a production server that you haven't tested on at least a development box.
