I was under the impression I had it enabled, but clearly I hadn't on this PC; which has a legacy BIOS with an MBR disk and which I used for troubleshooting the faulty drive after I removed it from the laptop. Lesson learned. ;-)
I've learned the hard way to "trust /but/ *verify*" things. Even things that I think I've done.
