Yeah they make life easier.
Not in any case. Otherwise it is a name only.

From your talk you never had a problem with
eth<0,10> switching names after boot. Everyone who had them appreciates
predictable network interfaces.

Predictable names are not limited to network if's. Just the (first?) point where most users comes in touch with it. And claiming about changes which seems to break some human logic.
