The emerge -e world fixed it. Was able to install wine and fire it up. I guess this means the change from no-multilib to multilib works. Phew! changing from no-multilib to multilib is compilation-intense. I wish the gentoo install instructions for amd64 had a red flag on this issue. Thanks, -- Valmor
