I actually run emerge -e world on my machines about once a month +/-, mostly to ensure the system can compile itself. So usually for me it's more for finding problems than resolving them, but I guess I'm so used to doing it that it's no big deal. I remember it used to take days, but nowadays if I start it in the evening it's usually done in the morning, or if I kick it off before leaving for work it's usually done before I get home. I also make a habit of doing a full bare-metal restore of one of my machines once a month to make sure my backups are good. So yeah, I have a habit of doing "reinstalls" except I don't really think of them as reinstalls because I (hopefully) get everything back :) -a
