I use the --keep-going always, it was a great addition and especially helpful when there is a bad package that won't compile for a week or two, it makes it easier to just ignore it. Also on big upgrade emerges like that sometimes packages will fail during "the big emerge" but after you finish, etc-update, env-update whatever, they will build okay, for whatever reason. Maybe related to gcc/binutils/other libs stuff not matching for a short while...
