After upgrading a kernel you need to boot into console mode and reinstall the drivers. The installation process builds and installs kernel modules under /lib/modules/`uname -r`/... So under r5 it can find the modules, but under r6 they don't exist yet. After re-installing the nvidia drivers, you can then get back into gui mode under that kernel. -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
