I agree with this as a viable solution, hosting vendor tarballs with the gentoo infrastructure is possible, though there would need to be a way to support proxy maintainers in uploading and hosting them, but to deprecate it and move on to removing it as an option for overlays is, in my view, a poor move. It adds a significant burden to overlay maintainers, who may have to move to paying for hosting of the vendor tarballs, forking repositories, or even not contributing at all. Chris
