No, it is not an option. Masking current stable because it is broken was not successful also(i heard, that this was usual practice earlier). Please, let's not reinvent the wheel around evident problem: lack of manpower. Easing stabilization procedure makes stable more, well, unstable. Bringing some workarounds like this brokes consistency of keywording. Keywords are things, that chosen by user. Overlays maintains keywords lists, yeah, but that can be reasonable only on vast amount of packages(like KDE). As i said earlier, we should recruit more people -> then problem will go away.
