So, Gentoo is about choice and empowering the user, so I think that if somebody wants to offer patches that allow mdev to work better without adversely affecting udev use then I'd encourage devs to accept those patches. However, if Gentoo aims to make Gnome/KDE difficult to deploy with the default configuration we'll be shooting ourselves in the feet. I think a lot more people run KDE/Gnome on Gentoo than run Gentoo with /usr not on root but who are unwilling to run an initramfs. Rich
