Because going behind the package mangler's back results in horribly screwed up systems (as anyone who's ever used lafilefixer will tell you...). This is something worth solving properly, and because of all the damage it can cause if done badly, it's worth not doing at all until a proper solution is available. -- Ciaran McCreesh
