He's not going to waste someone else's time, and as he said there will be compatibility with current configuration files, I don't think there's any downside to users.
FWIW, speaking as a user, I value stability over speed. But if I have a promise of stability (i.e. my current configs will still work), I have no problem with Roy scratching his speed itch. :)
