Hi Chris, Thanks for stepping in as a Mentor. You point out a common problem in the project community in China. There are some cultural differences between Chinese and OSS. Daniel and I gave a presentation[1] last year at the OSS Summit EU to explain them.
I have to admit that WeChat is so powerful. We use it not only for communication but also to place restaurant orders. It's challenging to make the change unless the project community is willing to embrace the fully async transparent communication as we did in ASF. We can find a balance between using WeChat and mailing lists. If we still remember that nothing happens if it does not happen on the mailing list in ASF, we are on the right track. Recently, I received some WeChat reminders for the mailing list thread, which is a good use of the tool.
